Trinidad is a relatively small island and travelling by road is a pleasant and generally hassle-free experience. Piarco International Airport (POS) is located close to Port of Spain, the island's capital city. Many of the roads around Trinidad can be extremely winding and beware of locals, who often choose to drive in the middle of the road. The network of roads between major towns on the island is good, although the traffic around the busy Port of Spain is frequently heavy. Independence Square can be especially difficult to drive around at most times of the day.
There are two main highways on Trinidad and they stretch in a north to south direction, and also east to west, being intersected by numerous smaller roads along the way, which can become narrow. In general, there are plenty of places to park your car and this is not usually ever a problem.
